Vigor is a third person shooter survival game. The initial release date of the game was July 30th 2018. Vigor was developed and published by Bohemia interactive and is only available on Xbox One.

Fun Factor

Image result for vigor Overall Vigor is a very fun game. The game mixes parts of a battle royal type game with the survival genre. Being able to go into multiplayer matches, which they call encounters,  and fight over loot with other players, which could be anything from better weapons to materials to upgrade your own base, is really interesting and a good addition/twist to traditional survival/battle royal type games. Vigor starts off its players with almost nothing and what keeps them hooked is the fact that the more they play the better equipment and base they will end up with. Then when the player has put enough time in to get good guns and equipment to do better in the encounters the game encourages them to play more by giving them options to increase the rarity and amount of loot that is possible to receive from the encounters. There are many ways to play out an encounter but don't always assume every player will be nice and not kill you, because even though you have all of the good loot it does not mean you have it forever. In the encounters other players can kill you just how you can kill them. You can lose all of your loot which pushes you to get back in to the mix and get everything all over again and maybe change up the way you play out your encounters from then on.

Learning Curve

Image result for vigor 2018 tutorialVigor is actually surprisingly very hard to learn and understand. The game starts with a simple tutorial that teaches you basic movements and how to aim and shoot. On top of this it only teaches you about a small portion of all the types of loot and doesn't even show you the different things you interact with in a real encounter. Even when you finish the tutorial the game only gives you small little tips and pointers on how to use and upgrade different parts of your shelter that are very difficult to understand if you have not played the game before. Because there really is not much explaining of how the game works the player really has to go out experiment and learn everything by themselves. It will take the average player about a day or two to really start getting into things and fully understand how the game works. Once the player has learned everything though, the game progresses really smoothly and doesn't change much.

Graphics

Image result for vigor in gameVigor has some of the best graphics for the year it came out in especially for a free game. From the crafting and upgrading menus to the 3D worlds of the shelter and maps for the encounters the game just looks wonderful and eye pleasing. The menus are really aesthetically easy to maneuver in making it clear to the player what they are doing all while giving it a nice look with the outlines and neatness of it all. The worlds also have really smooth looks from the ground to the buildings to the sky. Vigor also has changing weather and time throughout the different games you play and it all looks realistic. For example the fog and rain are just how they should be in real life it affects your vision but isn't too effective to the point where the player cant see or play such as in other games. Even at night time in the game the lighting is just right and looks very realistic.

Audio

If you have the opportunity to use a surround sound headset you could really pinpoint each and every sound and the direction it is coming from. all the sounds from the gunshots of different weapons to footsteps or the water and air around you are very crisp and clear. also as you approach each different sound it gets louder and sounds more like it is actually right next to you. Overall the audio in Vigor does a great job at immersing the player in the game.

Controls

Image result for xbox controllerThe controls in vigor would be very familiar to anyone who has played a shooting game before they did a great job at keeping it really simple. You move and look around with the analog sticks, shoot and aim with the triggers, jump, crouch, and reload with a, b, and x just as in most other games of this type. Also even if this is the first time a player is playing a shooting game the one thing that Vigor's tutorial does do a great job at is teaching them all of the controls they need to be successful.

Story and Characters

Image result for vigor tutorial openingVigor does not have much of a background story or any real characters. Vigor takes place in Norway, 1991. They put it into really great words on their website "The nuclear war is over. Europe is devastated, Norway has become the last stand. You start as a nameless Outlander, but who will you become? No time for uncertainty." https://vigorgame.com/about.That is all that is given to you in the game. You are just a random no named person living in this event trying to survive, gain materials, and build your own shelter. although the story and characters are not really there, Vigor really makes up for it in the variety of guns they have and how historically or modernly accurate they are. All of the names and looks of each gun are almost identical to their real life counterparts.

Game play and Design.

The overall game play and design of Vigor is very nice. Everything really fits the setting of the game. The buildings, guns, people, and your very own shelter all looks like what you would expect them to look like in 1991. The movement was very basic and war/survival like. Even the style of game really fits the small story they gave about the game. People fighting over equipment, guns, materials and their very own survival is exactly what you would expect to happen in the time shortly after a big nuclear war just happened around them. Even though the game does not give you much of a tutorial or how to do things, it does kind of match the setting you were place into no one is really going to tell you anything or try to help you if they are all looking out for themselves. it really puts the player in the situation explained and has them find stuff out as if they were actually there.

Changes

Image result for vigor pre game lobbyThere are a lot of changes that could be made to improve Vigor. There should be multiple patches to fix the many bugs and server issue they have. Sometimes the Lighting in the world gets all messed up and almost blinds the player, Other times there are constant crashes and server connection issues that wont let you play with your friends or even play in general. Also on many of the maps you almost feel like you can never find anyone and there is never action. its almost like you are running across the map 75 percent of the time you are playing. They should add more people to each lobby to always have the player doing something and not just boringly running aimlessly the whole time. Also some of the materials you need to upgrade things are very hard to find or is very limited in each game while other materials you always feel like you find too much of which makes the game feel really repetitive at times. They should respectively increase/decrease some of the drops of certain things.  If they fix all this and just generally come out with new content once in a while Vigor could really thrive in the current gaming community.

Recommend?

If you like looting/shooting games i would most definitely recommend you pick up vigor to try it. Besides all of the issues that the game may have it looks and feels really nice to play and even takes some of the parts of battle royal games that people really enjoy today. Even if you don't like games like these it is free anyways so why not just try it. you never know this might have been the mix of survival and battle royal you never knew you needed.Image result for vigor thank you
